A small dog rescues a porpoise with a little help from her human guardian.
Leia, a two-year old springer spaniel, alerted her guardian, Rich Wilcock, to the porpoise that had washed up on the Criccieth shoreline in Wales.
“There was nobody around for miles so I did what I could as gently as possible….I combed the beach for a while afterwards and stayed for an hour or so to make sure he made it back out to sea.”
Rich went on to say that “(Leia) is a very intelligent dog, more intelligent than most.” While clearly Rich cares about Leia, he cannot know that she is more intelligent than most dogs. We should begin to find less harmful ways to describe our nonhuman loved ones.
Leia and Rich are both living testaments to the altruistic goodness that is within each of us. Perhaps their efforts will not be soon forgotten by the little porpoise in the sea.
