Volunteer Opportunity – Writers:

We look for three categories of contributions. Before submitting anything, we ask that you take a look at similar pieces on our articles page, using the Filters tab to search through content you are interested in.

Science writing: rewriting summaries of academic journals articles and descriptions of scientific studies. This makes them accessible to wider audiences.

Stories about experiences you’ve had with cetaceans: This can be in the wild or in captivity (but never promoting captivity). People sometimes like to share negative experiences they’ve had at places like SeaWorld, describing the moment they realized it was wrong. If you’ve had a compelling experience with a wild cetacean, we’d love to hear about that too!

Opinion pieces: we only make space for the most progressive opinions on Sonar. We push the envelope of the ‘animal rights’ movement as far as it will go. We strive to incorporate intersectionality and decolonial theories into our writing. If you have opinions you believe would be appropriate for Sonar, we’d be happy to hear them.

For all of the above, we ask that you submit a brief pitch/description. We are also willing to republish existing works that you have rights to.

We will be giving separate author profiles to contributors who publish at least three pieces on our site.

If you are interested in contributing, please contact sonarweare@gmail.com.
